The 95th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars , (Oscars 2023) will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Ovation Hollywood (formerly known as the Dolby Theatre) in Los Angeles, California. The event will be broadcast live on ABC from 8:00 pm ET, and on streaming services such as Hulu Live TV, YouTubeTV, and FuboTV. The red carpet arrivals will be covered by E! at 5:00 pm Eastern.
Jimmy Kimmel will host the ceremony, returning to the role after previously hosting in 2017 and 2018. The performers at the event will include Rihanna, who will sing “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as well as other nominated
songs such as “Applause” (from Tell It like a Woman), “Naatu Naatu” (RRR), and “This Is a Life” (Everything Everywhere All at Once). However, Lady Gaga will not be performing her nominated song, “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick, due to her shooting schedule for Joker: Folie à Deux.
Presenters at the ceremony will include a wide range of Hollywood stars, such as Halle Berry, Harrison Ford, Eva Longoria, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Samuel L. Jackson, Melissa McCarthy, and Zoe Saldaña, among others.
While little is known about the format of the ceremony or the order of play on the night, it has been confirmed that all 23 categories will be included in the 2023 live telecast, unlike in 2022 where eight categories were presented off the air, causing outrage from across the industry. According to Bill Kramer, the CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the 2023 ceremony will celebrate the artisans, the arts and sciences, and the collaborative nature of moviemaking. He added that the show will reflect the Academy’s legacy while bringing it into the future.
The 2022 Oscars were historic in many ways, with Apple TV+’s CODA becoming the first film released by a streaming service to win best picture, Troy Kotsur becoming the first deaf man to secure an acting Oscar, and Ariana DeBose becoming the first openly queer woman of color to scoop best supporting actress,
among other memorable moments. With the 2023 ceremony just around the corner, audiences can expect another exciting night celebrating the best of the film industry.
